Pritish Nandy Communications’ first offering for the year is a romance unlike any other. Inspired by the events of his life, Vikram Bhatt puts to celluloid a film after his own heart, Ankahee.
The truth is that Shekhar (Aftab Shivdasani) was a common man. Happily married to his wife Nandita (Ameesha Patel) of several years. The relationship was sealed as special by the coming of their child. They were a happy family. Till one day, the reigning Miss World and Bollywood’s biggest star, Kavya Krishna (Esha Deol), walked into his hospital armed with a slit wrist and what Shekhar believed to be, true love.
Kavya was beautiful, stunning in fact. She was smart and alive and Shekhar, like the rest of the world, fell in love with her. Days hurried past as he cleared the rest of his life, his wife, his daughter, his friends, his work to make way for his love. Nothing was more important than Kavya and his need to be her constant.
Kavya Krishna. The reigning Miss World. The most beautiful woman in the world. Or maybe the most beautiful woman in a pageant of 60 girls. Bollywood’s biggest upcoming star. Beautiful. Powerful. Successful. Alone. Lonely in a world where she was the most popular woman. For her Shekhar was the lifeline, she’d always sought. Her anchor. Her man. The only person in the world who could make her happy. And Kavya wanted, needed, struggled to be happy.
Nandita, of course, was the woman stuck in the middle. Shekhar was her husband. The only man she’d ever loved. And yet, he’d found it only too easy to walk away. From her. From their home. And from Sheena, their 6 year old daughter.
Ankahee is about the truths that were left unspoken between a man, his wife and his daughter. And the lies that need to be uncovered.
It is a film about brutal love, deception, betrayal and the desperate loneliness that accompanies all three.
I had just watched Ankahee like again. Oh well, it was on Star Gold, so I just watched it. Watching this movie makes me go into deep thoughts about how vulnerable and fragile a relationship can be. I guess when it comes to situation like this, we ladies never fail to blame the guys. But after much thought, I believe, if the woman themself did not make the first move to seduce a man who is already labelled as 'husband or fiance' then I guess, the word 'home-wrecker' itself wouldn't even exist. Of course, this can even happened before marriage. You know, boyfriend, girlfriend relationship.
I believed, at some point of time, we just can't blame the guys wholely. Guys would be guys. Love and lust, maybe, it's a little hard for them to control. Hence, we ladies play an important role here. Not only do we have to ensure that our relationship stays strong, we have to also ensure that we are not in the way of the happiness of another woman.
This reminds me of what Man says, "It's so hard and expensive to be a girl." Thinking through it actually, it's kindda true. First and foremost, we have to worry that the man we are in love with does not belong to anyone else. Not someone's boyfriend, fiance or husband. However, it is painful at times when guys just don't see our efforts and they just have to do things to hurt us.
Nevertheless, I feel blessed to be a girl. I guess we girls go through the most interesting stages of life. Where firstly, we were born in this world as a daughter, then to being a wife and then, a life giving life to another, as a mother. I can never imagined how strong a woman can be till I realise, that's why there's a saying which goes, "There's a woman behind every successful man." Don't you think so too? A motivation for me to always look and step ahead each day with a strong mind come what may.
Ok my entry today is like as though today is world woman's day or something. Haha... but oh well, just some thoughts to ponder on a Monday. As teachers, we are bound to do tonnes and tonnes of reflections and I guess I was a little too carried aways today. Reflections, reflections and more reflections. Haha... Alright, too much for today. I'm off...
